Postponement of the Mahapola Certificate Awarding Ceremony – Academic Year 2024/2025

The Lalith Athulathmudali Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund deeply regrets to announce that the Mahapola Certificate Awarding Ceremony for the Academic Year 2024/2025, which was scheduled to be held on 28 September 2026, has been postponed due to circumstances beyond the control of the Trust Fund.
The ceremony was specially planned to recognize and celebrate the educational achievements of approximately 600 students selected for Mahapola certificates under both the Merit and Non-Merit categories.

Mahapola is not merely a scholarship programme. Its fundamental purpose is to uplift the lives of students through education and provide them with opportunities to overcome poverty and build a better future.
The Mahapola Trust Fund remains committed to strengthening the support provided to students who currently benefit from the Mahapola programme and to expanding opportunities for deserving students who may join the programme in the future.

An important objective of the planned Certificate Awarding Ceremony was also to increase public awareness of the Mahapola mission and create opportunities to engage new donors, sponsors and well-wishers who share the vision of supporting higher education.
Such partnerships are important to enable the Trust Fund to further strengthen the benefits provided to students currently within the Mahapola system and to create greater opportunities for future beneficiaries.
The Trust Fund regrets that various information and views have been circulated through social media by parties who may not have had a complete understanding of the objectives, background and arrangements of the programme, resulting in unnecessary uncertainty regarding the event.

As the Mahapola Board of Trustees, we wish to emphasize that all activities of the Trust Fund are carried out with transparency and accountability. Whenever any concern or uncertainty arises regarding the activities of the Trust Fund, interested parties are welcome to contact the Trust Fund and discuss such matters with the relevant officials.
The Trust Fund therefore wishes to clearly reiterate that the proposed ceremony was planned primarily to recognize the achievements of students, encourage them in their educational journey, and further strengthen the Mahapola mission.

We sincerely regret the inconvenience, disappointment and difficulties caused by the postponement of the ceremony to students, parents, universities, suppliers, staff members and all other stakeholders who had made arrangements in anticipation of the event.
We wish to emphasize that the postponement of the ceremony does not diminish the achievements of any student or affect the value of the Mahapola Scholarship.
